§ 2-53 H AWAI‘I C OUNTY C ODE <br />Article 11. Department of Parks and Recreation. <br />Section 2-53. Powers and authority. <br />The department of parks and recreation shall be responsible for all public parks, <br />recreational facilities and playgrounds in the County, owned by the County or in its <br />possession or control, together with all equipment, supplies, and paraphernalia used in <br />connection with them. The department shall care for the recreational needs in the <br />County and provide such organized and supervised games and recreation as may be <br />conducive to the mental, physical and moral development of the people of the County. <br />Wherever and whenever feasible, the department shall use public school property and <br />buildings by agreement with the State department of education to the extent that such <br />property and buildings may be adaptable and available for use in County recreational <br />programs and purposes. <br />(1983 CC, c 2, art 11, sec 2-53.)2-53 <br />Section 2-54. Powers and duties of director. <br />The director of parks and recreation shall have and enjoy all the powers and duties <br />conferred upon the department by ordinance. <br />(1983 CC, c 2, art 11, sec 2-54.)2-54 <br />Section 2-55. Deputy director. <br />The deputy director of the department of parks and recreation shall be appointed <br />by the director and may be removed by the director. <br />(1983 CC, c 2, art 11, sec 2-55.)2-55 <br />Section 2-56. Full-time employees. <br />The director shall employ such full-time employees including professional, clerical, <br />and others, subject to the availability of appropriated funds, as may be necessary to <br />carry out the provisions of this article. Full-time employees of the department shall be <br />employed in accordance with the civil service and personnel compensation laws. <br />(1983 CC, c 2, art 11, sec 2-56.)2-56 <br />Section 2-57. Part-time and temporary employees. <br />The director is empowered to appoint, promote, demote, and terminate the <br />employment and fix the salaries and wages of such part-time or temporary personnel as <br />are necessary to carry out the purposes of this article. <br />(1983 CC, c 2, art 11, sec 2-57.)2-57 <br />Section 2-58. Cooperation with other agencies and organizations. <br />The department of parks and recreation, in the planning, development, and conduct <br />of its program of public recreation and in scheduling the use of publicly owned lands or <br />buildings for the conduct of its programs, shall cooperate to the fullest extent possible <br />with all other duly recognized and generally accepted agencies, groups and <br />organizations who may desire to use the lands or buildings. <br />(1983 CC, c 2, art 11, sec 2-58.)2-58 <br />2-22 <br /> <br />
