Location: 75-5776 Alii Drive, Kailua-Kona, HI <br /> Ms. Newlon (Staff) commenced her Power point presentation starting with applicant <br /> Papa Kona Coffee and Events LLC (previously Chart House), who proposed to do non- <br /> structural repairs and modifications to the interior and exterior of the Papa Kona <br /> Restaurant located in the Waterfront Row of Alii Drive. The applicant did need to do an <br /> SMA assessment, because they are a shoreline parcel and also required to do a Kailua <br /> Village Design review. There were no changes to the second level. Ms. Newlon shared <br /> photos provided by the applicant of the existing brace covered by plywood sheathing and <br /> another photo of what the exposed glass looks like. There was a Plan Approval done in <br /> 2017 and a Variance Application. After the presentation Commissioner Smith asked if <br /> the project had already been completed. Commissioner Hetherington mentioned that he <br /> was asked to do some work on the project previously and believed that most of the work <br /> had been done. The applicant Anna White responded to the question raised by <br /> Commissioner Smith and confirmed that the work was completed, they opened the <br /> restaurant on October 15, 2020 and advised by a DPW inspector that they could move <br /> forward with their project using their Alteration Permit. Commissioner Ikeuchi <br /> commented that the exposed beam and glass looks really classy and thought that it was <br /> really nice that the applicant thought of bringing back its original integrity. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Ikeuchi to approve the application as submitted <br /> and Commissioner Werchick seconded the motion. There were no discussions on the <br /> motion, and a roll call vote was taken. The motion was carried with eight ayes: <br /> (Commissioner's Ching, Crusat, Hetherington, Kern, Smith, Sullenberger, Ikeuchi and <br /> Werchick). <br /> Chairman Roth—Motion adopted. <br /> 2. The applicants, Roger and Linda Clark, are proposing a sign permit/variance for <br /> a 2 square foot real estate sign with maximum 1.65-inch lettering, to be located on <br /> an entry wall consisting of a rock wall with chain link fence atop it,located at the <br /> front of their condominium complex, the Kona West.
