<br />WINDWARD PLANNING COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I <br />MINUTES <br />JANUARY 6, 2011 <br />The Windward Planning Commission met in regular session at 9:03 a.m. in the County of <br />Hawai‘i Councilroom, County Building, 25 Aupuni Street, Hilo, Hawai‘i with Chairman Zendo <br />Kern presiding. <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Zendo Kern, Dean Au, Takashi Domingo, Wallace Ishibashi, <br />Stephen Ono, and Rell Woodward <br />STAFF PRESENT: Julie Mecklenburg (Deputy Corporation Counsel), Daryn Arai (Planning <br />Program Manager), Phyllis Fujimoto (Staff Planner), Maija Cottleand Jeff <br />Darrow (Staff Planner). <br />The Chair introduced the staff and Windward Planning Commissioners to the public and <br />described the procedures to be followed for today’s meeting. <br />The Commission took the following item up at 9:06 a.m. with 12 people from the public in <br />attendance: <br />APPLICANT: YAMADA & SONS, INC. (SPP 10-110) <br />Application for a Special Permit to allow for the establishment of a quarry and related uses on <br />14.99-acre portion of a larger 2,500±-acre parcel situated within the State Land Use Agricultural <br />District. The project site is located to the south of the Hilo Sanitary Landfill and adjacent to the <br />-1-13: <br />Portion of 2. <br />(SEE EXHIBIT A) <br />The Commission took the following item up at 9:26 a.m. with 8 people from the public in <br />attendance: <br />APPLICANT: CROWN CASTLE GT COMPANY LLC (USE 10-023) <br />Application for a Use Permit to allow the removal of an existing 111-foot tall telecommunication <br />monopole and the construction of a 104-foot tall steel telecommunication monopole, antennas <br />and related improvements on a600-square foot portion of a larger 2,000+-acre parcel situated in <br />the County’s Agricultural-zoned district. The project site is located approximately 1.5 miles <br />south (makai) of Highway 11 and Na‘alehu Village, Kahilipali Nui, Ka‘u, Hawai‘i, TMK: 9-5- <br />007: Portion of 16. <br />(SEE EXHIBIT B) <br />The Commission took the following item up at 10:00 a.m. with 7 people from the public in <br />attendance: <br /> <br />
