Merit Appeals Board February 11, 2022 <br />And Waylen has been in the "Acting" position now for several months. And the advice that he's <br />been giving and the job that he's been doing over thereI believe has been superb. And wein <br />Administration—County have really relied on Waylen for a lot of key decisions and so far he's <br />just done a great job. <br />So, with that, Waylen, I am so happy to be here congratulating you in this position. It feels like <br />you've been here for most of my Administration already—and now, this is just really making it <br />official. We have a lot of work to do. So I just want to say thank you so much and look forward <br />to working more with you in the future. <br />MR. LEOPOLDINO: Thank you, Mayor. <br />MR. ROTH: Thank you. <br />CHR. CABANAS: Thank you, Mayor. Thank you so much. At this time, Waylen, would you <br />like to say a couple words to the Board and to your staff? <br />MR. LEOPOLDINO: I would have to say, "yes." I am extremely humbled by the selection and <br />the opportunity to serve as Director of Human Resources. <br />We've met numerous times before today and I think you all understand my position in protecting <br />and upholding the merit system—and that is my priority going forward. When I committed to <br />that on my first day at HR and being appointed as Acting Director of Human Resources on <br />July I`—and I'm going to continue that work. I'm going to continue to ensure we provide fair, <br />consistent, honest opinions in supporting our departments and in supporting this Administration. <br />And I will work hard to make each and every one of you proud of your selection. And I, too, <br />look forward to working with each and every one of you. And I will value all of your expertise <br />and your input and your feedback as we move forward. <br />And I also want to thank my staff. As I said, this is very humbling for me not only <br />professionally but personally. My family wanted to be here but I didn't know what the outcome <br />was going to be so they were they are supporting me from afar. So <br />But my secondary family, my work family, is here behind me—like they've always been as I've <br />mentioned to you all. So you get to see it first-hand. So, I'm very grateful, I'm very <br />appreciative—and I'm looking forward to moving forward continuing our hard work and making <br />the County of Hawaii a great place to come and work for—as I had mentioned before. <br />So, again, thank you very much.
