<br />KAILUA VILLAGE DESIGN COMMISSION <br />MINUTES <br />MEETING DATE: December 2, 2008 <br />TIME: 5:00 p.m. <br />PLACE: The Mayor’s Office Conference Room, Suite 103 <br />Hanama Place Office Building in Kailua Village <br />ROLL CALL <br />1.Members Present: Sally Marone, Fanny Au Hoy, Paul Bleck, Fritz Harris-Glade, Stephen <br />Herbert, Gregory Ogin and David Ross, Jr. (from 5:05 p.m.) <br />2.Absent and Excused: Cindy Coats and Ann Kern <br />3.Applicant: Dereck Furuta <br />4.Staff Present: Bennett Mark, Rosalind Newlon and Noriko Sauer <br />5.Public: None <br />The Chair welcomed those in attendance, and the Commissioners introduced themselves. <br />UNFINISHED BUSINESS <br />None. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />1.Design review of a Sign Permit for CarQuest Auto Parts. Applicant: Kathy Cruz, <br />Hawaiian Sign and Design. Land owner: Hale Hana Partners, LP. and Queen <br />Liliuokalani Trust. TMK: 7-4-015-018. Located on 74-5583 Luhia Street, Nos. B4 and <br />B5, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, within the Kailua Industrial Subdivision area. <br />Staff Presentation <br />Ms. Newlon oriented the Commissioners regarding the subject and surrounding <br />properties on the location map, and described the proposed marquee sign. In response to <br />the Commissioners’ queries, she said that the sign meets the Sign Code according to the <br />Department of Public Works, and that it appears to be consistent with the Master Plan for <br />Kailua Village guidelines as well. <br />Applicant Presentation <br />The applicant, Kathy Cruz, was not available. Dereck Furuta of CarQuest Auto Parts was <br />present, and said that in conjunction with their recent investment in additional inventory <br />and shelf space, totaling in $25,000, the shop would like better exposure to help business. <br />Public Testimony <br />There was no one from the public wishing to testify on this agenda item. <br />1 <br /> <br />
