TO THE FIRE COMMISSION <br />Highlights <br />The following are the top three issues for the last month: <br />Mauna Loa Eruption <br />The continuing eruption of Mauna Loa and the subsequent establishment <br />of a viewing area along the Old Saddle Road on Pohakuloa, resulted in <br />the requirement for a medical stand-by. The Hawai'i Fire Department <br />supported the event with an EMS Team that operated out of the Gilbert <br />Kahele Recreation Area. <br />County Council Inaugural Ceremony <br />Chief officers participated in the Inaugural <br />Ceremony held at the Hilo Civic Auditorium <br />on December 5, 2022 and witnessed the <br />swearing in of the new County Council <br />members. <br />Holiday Activity Support <br />The Hawai'i Fire Department supported a variety of community holiday <br />activities and events including three parades, a Holiday Celebration at <br />the Civic, the Mayor's Red Kettle Breakfast, and the Magic of the Season <br />held at the County Building. <br />Hawai'i Fire Chiefs Association Conference <br />The Hawai'i Fire Department hosted the 43rd Annual <br />Hawai'i Fire Chiefs Association's annual training <br />conference at the Fairmont Orchid from December 14-18. <br />Over 200 participants benefitted from a impressive lineup <br />'�, of industry leaders such as Retired Chief Bobby Halton, <br />C �Fire Engineering; Dr. Lori Moore -Merrell, U.S. Fire <br />} Administrator; Derek Alkonis, Research Program <br />r Manager at Underwriters Laboratories Inc.; and Major <br />General Joseph Ryan, 25th JD Commander, among <br />others. <br />2022 1 DECEMBER <br />3 <br />
