APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE JUNE 30, 2023 MEETING – Clyde <br />Silva – Motion to approve the minutes of the meeting. Motion to accept the <br />minutes by Lisa McNamarra, and seconded by Judy Bell. Unanimously approved. <br /> <br />5. COMMENTS FROM THE COMMITTEE CHAIR – Clyde Silva <br />Thanked everyone for serving on the committee, and what the committee do in <br />their community. <br /> <br />6. EXECUTIVE ON AGING REPORT AND UPDATES – Horace Farr <br />1. The Executive on Aging gave an update on the USAging Conference held <br />July 16-19, 2023, in Salt Lake City Utah. This year’s conference highlighted <br />th <br />and celebrated the 50 anniversary of the creation of the Area Agency on <br />th <br />Aging (AAA), and the 45 anniversary of Title VI Native American <br />programs embodied in the Older Americans Act. <br /> <br />The closing session was moderated by Edwin Walker, Deputy Assistant <br />Secretary of Aging, and U.S. Administration for Community Living. Edwin <br />Walker reminded us all that the success of the Aging Network is due to the <br />incredible foundation laid by the Older Americans Act (OAM). The <br />missions of the AAA and the Title VI programs are just as relevant and <br />important today as they were five decades ago. The OAM structure of <br />“bottom up” planning continues to ensure that our shared mission continues <br />to reach the growing numbers of increasingly diverse older adults and <br />caregivers. <br /> <br />2. The Executive on Aging gave an update on the upcoming Hawaii Pacific <br />Gerontological Society Conference to be held September 7 – 8, 2023, at the <br />Ala Moana Hotel in Honolulu. Clyde Silva from Pahala, and Judy Bell from <br />Kona will be attending the conference as Committee on Aging (COA) <br />members. <br /> <br />3. The Executive on Aging reported to the COA, the Hawaii County Office of <br />Aging (HCOA), 4-Year Area Plan 2023 – 2027 has been accepted by the <br />State Executive Office on Aging (EOA) and we can continue our designation <br />as an Area Agency on Aging. <br /> <br /> <br />
