I was contacted by a KADC Board Member as well as Rowena Tiqui
requesting assistance in finding a replacement agency to keep the facility open.

I reached out and contacted the Board President/Vice President of the Hawaii
Island Adult Care (HIAC) in Hilo, as well as the Executive at the Hawaii County
Economic Opportunity Counsel (HCEOC) informing them of KADC’s impending
closure. We discussed the possibility of expanding services in West Hawaii.
Unfortunately, HIAC was experiencing a significant reduction in participant’s
attendance, in combination with several closures of their facility due to COVID.
Board members were not open to expanding to West Hawaii at that time.

HCEOC declined stating that they did not have the experience and capacity
required to run a Day Care facility.

Expanding island wide access to day care services is a priority for HCOA, and at
our ADRC Aging Network task force meetings as well.

Shelly Ogata (PABEA) – (1) Medicaid renewal process doing phased renewals
for low income.
