COMMENTS FROM THE COMMITTEE CHAIR – Patricia Nye <br />Scam calls – Federal Government helped to combat ROBO calls. However, <br />now the scammers have gone to text messaging. There is no way to trace <br />where it is coming from. <br /> <br />6. EXECUTIVE ON AGING REPORT AND UPDATES – Horace Farr <br />1. Attended the National USAging Conference and Tradeshow held in <br />Austin, Texas in July. USAging is the national association representing <br />and supporting the network of Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) and <br />advocating for the Title VI Native American Aging Programs. This year’s <br />conference was the first in person conference since 2019 due to the <br />Covid-19 pandemic. The conference was attended by over 1000 <br />individuals from all 50 states, Guam, American Samoa, and Puerto Rico. <br />The three day conference theme “Creating an Inclusive Culture”, how <br />to create access and equity across health disparity barriers. Income, <br />ethnicity, education, age, and gender are health disparity preventable <br />circumstances. The removal of health disparity barriers that prevent <br />“Equal Access and Equity”, will be the focal foundation for all value- <br />based care programs. <br /> <br />2. Staffing – Administrative Services Assistant I, and the Database Analyst <br />positions are vacant. <br /> <br />3. Onsite visit to Kau, and South Kona Districts. Access to services, 1. <br />Size – Kau: 922 sq. mi, S. Kona: 335.4 sq. mi. Total: 1,257.4 sq. mi. <br />(Sites visited: Pahala, Naalehu, Hawaiian Ocean View Estates (HOVE), <br />Milolii, and Honaunau.) <br /> <br />7. STATE POLICY ADVISORY BOARD FOR ELDERLY AFFAIRS (PABEA) – <br />Shelly Ogata – PABEA updates: <br />At the last PABEA meeting there was a strategic planning meeting and notes <br />will be forthcoming. There were a few areas that were identified for <br />prioritization. <br />State Plan – Surveys: Horace mentioned the completed surveys can be sent <br />to the Hawaiʻi County Office of Aging in Hilo, and we can get it to the State. <br /> <br /> <br />
