APPROVAL OF WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS <br />Commissioner Matsuda moved to accept communication number 05-011. The <br />motion was seconded by Commissioner Browne and unanimously carried. <br />Commissioner Kudlo inquired about communication number 05-011, (The <br />st <br />request of a Commissioner to speak at the 31 Recruit Class graduation <br />ceremony) who would be representing the commission. <br />Commissioner Maedo asked HCFD€s Secretary Laurie Kaneta if <br />Commissioner Fergerstrom responded to the request. <br />Ms. Kaneta replied that he had not. <br />Commissioner Maedo stated that she was unable to attend. Commissioner <br />Brazier informed her that he would attend. She suggested that he check with <br />Commissioner Fergerstrom on whether he would be representing the <br />commission. <br />CHIEFS REPORT/NEW BUSINESS (contd) <br />Budget <br />FY 2005/06: On July 8, 2005, a request was submitted to the County <br />· <br />Council for the reinstatement of funds with the four previously unfunded <br />fire fighter positions. The funding is necessary for the hiring of the <br />rd <br />upcoming 33Recruit Class in September 2005. <br />Alternative Funding and Grants <br /> USFA Grant: Bid specifications were submitted to the purchasing office <br />· <br />for the modular live fire-training unit(burn trailer); anticipating bids from <br />vendors for the delivery of the trailer. <br /> <br />FY 2005 Assistance to Firefighters Grant: On June 16, 2005, a favorable <br />· <br />review was received by FEMA. There were requests for clarification on <br />how the department would match funds and whether the department <br />would be able to implement the program within the time period. Also <br />included was identifying stations that are within the National Historic <br />Preservation and National Flood Insurance Programs requirements. <br />Responses were submitted on July 8, 2005. <br />Commissioner Maedo questioned the timeline. <br />ChiefOliveirastatedthattheprocesswouldtakeoneyear. <br />RegardingKawailaniFireStation€sconcernwiththeemissioncontrol, <br />Chief Oliveira stated that a consultant was brought in from Kauai in <br />partnershipwiththeDepartmentofEnvironmentalManagementtoassess <br />4 <br /> <br />
