Request to Amend Special use permit 549 <br />Makualani Christian Academy formally know as Kona Christian academy would like to request to <br />amend Special Permit No. 549. The school would like to add the adjacent property identified as <br />TMK (3) 7-4-006:046-0000 to special permit 549 to be able to operate within the parameters of <br />Special Permit 549. The school would also like to formally request an increase from the listed <br />180 students on permit 549 to be able to accommodate 210 students between the two parcels. <br />The school has been recently gifted the TMK described above and would like to amend special <br />permit 549 to be able to use it for educational purposes as well in conjunction with the existing <br />school campus. <br />Section 3 <br />A. The proposed use of parcel of land is for educational purposes, classrooms. The land and <br />modular building would be part of the adjacent school, Makua Lani Christian Academy. <br />We are requesting to increase the amount of students due to an increase in demand <br />and to also get our 5th graders back on the elementary school campus. <br />Developmentally, 5th grade kids fit much better with grades K-4 vs 6-12. Over the last <br />two years coming out of covid, we had to shift the 5th graders to the high school <br />Makualani Campus to accommodate the amount of students we had a that time so we <br />would not go over our current special permit 549. The parcel of land will be used to <br />house new classrooms with bathrooms that will function for elementary school children. <br />We are currently seeking to add 2 classrooms to the property that are 24x40 totaling 960 <br />square feet, Both classrooms fit in the 960 square foot new modular building, making <br />each classroom 12x24' that share a common wall. We would also add a separate set of <br />bathrooms totaling a maximum of 225 square feet this would be Approx 15x15'. This <br />would also include the addition of a new septic system. As for additional parking stalls <br />that will be used, we would use a max of 4 for teacher parking. We do not need any <br />additional parking unless the county requires us to. We do have two paved parking lots <br />on the new parcel. There is an upper parking lot and a lower parking lot as shown on <br />the TOPO map. The teachers would be on the property Monday through Friday from <br />7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The children would be on the property weekdays from 7:30-2:45 <br />each, except on Wednesdays when the students leave at 12:30. Grace community <br />church currently operates mainly on Sundays. <br />B. The subject property is a 1.9 -acre parcel located adjacent to 74-4889 Palani Road (Grace <br />Community Church) and 74-4907 Palani Road (Church of Christ/Makua Lani Christian <br />Academy). See Exhibit "A" in attached deed. There is a single driveway access that <br />provides for both this parcel of land and Grace Community Church. The parcel is split by <br />
