Request to Amend Special use permit 549 Makualani Christian Academy formally know as Kona Christian academy would like to request to amend Special Permit No. 549. The school would like to add the adjacent property identified as TMK (3) 7-4-006:046-0000 to special permit 549 to be able to operate within the parameters of Special Permit 549. The school would also like to formally request an increase from the listed 180 students on permit 549 to be able to accommodate 210 students between the two parcels. The school has been recently gifted the TMK described above and would like to amend special permit 549 to be able to use it for educational purposes as well in conjunction with the existing school campus. Section 3 A. The proposed use of parcel of land is for educational purposes, classrooms. The land and modular building would be part of the adjacent school, Makua Lani Christian Academy. We are requesting to increase the amount of students due to an increase in demand and to also get our 5th graders back on the elementary school campus. Developmentally, 5th grade kids fit much better with grades K-4 vs 6-12. Over the last two years coming out of covid, we had to shift the 5th graders to the high school Makualani Campus to accommodate the amount of students we had a that time so we would not go over our current special permit 549. The parcel of land will be used to house new classrooms with bathrooms that will function for elementary school children. We are currently seeking to add 2 classrooms to the property that are 24x40 totaling 960 square feet, Both classrooms fit in the 960 square foot new modular building, making each classroom 12x24' that share a common wall. We would also add a separate set of bathrooms totaling a maximum of 225 square feet this would be Approx 15x15'. This would also include the addition of a new septic system. As for additional parking stalls that will be used, we would use a max of 4 for teacher parking. We do not need any additional parking unless the county requires us to. We do have two paved parking lots on the new parcel. There is an upper parking lot and a lower parking lot as shown on the TOPO map. The teachers would be on the property Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The children would be on the property weekdays from 7:30-2:45 each, except on Wednesdays when the students leave at 12:30. Grace community church currently operates mainly on Sundays. B. The subject property is a 1.9 -acre parcel located adjacent to 74-4889 Palani Road (Grace Community Church) and 74-4907 Palani Road (Church of Christ/Makua Lani Christian Academy).
