Additionally, the <br /> new structure is less than 35 feet tall, which is visually compatible with the <br /> surrounding residential area. <br /> NATURAL RESOURCES ELEMENT <br /> Goals and Policies <br /> • Protect and preserve forest,water,natural,and scientific resources and open <br /> areas. <br /> • Ensure that alterations to existing landfonns and vegetation, except crops, <br /> and construction of structures cause minimum adverse effect to water <br /> resources, and scenic and recreational amenities and minimum danger of <br /> floods, landslides, erosion, alteration, or failure in the event of earthquake. <br /> • The County of Hawaii should require users of natural resources to conduct <br /> their activities in a manner to avoid or minimize adverse effects on the <br /> environment. <br /> Discussion <br /> The site doesn't not have on site developmental constraints outside of the lack of <br /> appropriate zoning, and the natural resource impact will not be significant. The site <br /> is designated "X" on the FIRM map. The existing, introduced vegetation will be <br /> maintained and enhanced, consistent with the residential ambiance of the <br /> surrounding areas. <br /> Furthermore,there are no known archaeological or cultural features associated with <br /> the site. Furthermore, if there are inadvertent archaeological features found on the <br /> site, work will stop and the State DLNR and County Planning department will be <br /> consulted before further activities occur within the affected area. <br /> Dust control attenuation measures will be exercised during the minima construction <br /> phase of this project. When completed, the existing and additional landscaping <br /> should also help minimize dust pollution, as well as provide some virtual relief of <br /> the improvements to the site. <br /> 20 <br />
