Melissa May is SSFM's Deputy Manager for our Strategic Services Group and <br /> she is a senior planner with more than a decade of experience in community <br /> and environmental planning in Hawaii. She is passionate about place-making <br /> through community building and improvements to the built environment. Ms. <br /> May has worked on a wide variety of projects for both public and private <br /> sector clients, including long-range community planning, economic <br /> development, renewable energy, endangered species, electric utility projects, <br /> disaster planning, habitat creation, construction monitoring, municipal water <br /> SSFM International supply, and water quality restoration projects. She is accustomed to <br /> assembling and overseeing teams to develop and execute effective marketing <br /> and engagement campaigns to achieve broad community support. Her <br /> EDUCATION training in anthropology and environmental science inform cultural and <br /> B.S., Environmental environmental sensitivity in her work. Ms. May's areas of interest include <br /> Studies, Southern economic development, community planning, community engagement, natural <br /> Oregon University disaster planning, and natural resource management. <br /> (2000) <br /> Certificate in Cultural REPRESENTATIVE PROJECT EXPERIENCE <br /> Resource Management, <br /> Southern Oregon Kauai General Plan Update. Senior Planner. Currently working with the <br /> University (2000) County of Kauai as Project Manager to develop the strategy and vision for the <br /> Master of Arts in next update of the Kauai General Plan, a forward thinking policy document <br /> Anthropology, University that guides the future of the island. This two-year effort involves extensive <br /> of Hawaii (2003) stakeholder involvement and community outreach island wide. The public <br /> engagement program utilizes innovative methods of digital engagement, as <br /> REGISTRATION well as traditional outreach and engagement. <br /> American Planning Downtown Hilo Multimodal Master Plan. Senior Planner. Ms. White <br /> Association, American contributed to the development and execution of the stakeholder engagement <br /> Institute of Certified program and is currently acting as the lead writer on the Plan. The DHMMP is <br /> Planners#029129 aimed at identifying implementing actions to make Downtown Hilo more <br /> walkable, bike-friendly, and vibrant. Ms. White coordinated a stakeholder <br /> advisory group, oversaw seven focus groups with key stakeholders, and <br /> planned and executed a community wide meeting with 200 participants. <br /> Lihue Community Plan. Senior Planner. Worked closely with the County of <br /> Kauai to develop a 20-year plan and vision for the Lihue District of the Island <br /> of Kauai. Facilitated community participation and input through public events, <br /> presentations, and Community Working Group meetings. Developed and <br /> maintained a project website, collateral, and presentations. Served as lead <br /> writer on the Community Plan, procured and supervised graphic design <br /> services on the final product. <br /> State of Hawaii Natural Disaster Economic Recovery Strategy. Project <br /> Manager. Led a team in preparing a strategy to improve small business <br /> continuity planning statewide. The plan was developed with extensive <br /> stakeholder involvement, including a series of small business focus groups, an <br /> Advisory Group comprised of disaster management agencies and experts, <br /> and a statewide survey of small businesses. The scope included pre-disaster <br /> planning through to post-disaster recovery for small businesses, and <br /> recommended measures to be taken by public and private sector entities to <br /> improve small business resilience. <br />
