<br /> REPRESENTATIVE PROJECT EXPERIENCE
<br /> EDUCATION DHHL `Ewa Beach Homestead Master Plan and Environmental Assessment,
<br /> Master of Urban and `Ewa Beach, Oahu. Planner. A master plan and environmental assessment
<br /> Regional Planning, were being prepared for a new residential Hawaiian homestead community on
<br /> University of Hawaii at recently acquired DHHL lands in 'Ewa Beach. The process included
<br /> Manoa beneficiary and stakeholder engagement, technical studies, preparation of a
<br /> Bachelor of Arts, preliminary engineering report, and a beneficiary survey to inform the Master
<br /> Communication (Minor, Plan and EA alternatives.
<br /> Hawaiian Studies), DHHL Hanapepe Homestead Development, Kauai, Hawaii. Planner. A traffic
<br /> University of Hawaii at assessment, planning, public engagement, technical site studies, and
<br /> Hilo environmental compliance were prepared for the proposed phased master
<br /> plan development of residential and commercial buildings on 365 acres of
<br /> Hawaiian Home Lands in support of an Environmental Assessment. Project
<br /> required coordination and consideration with existing land use and
<br /> transportation plans for the County and State in addition to providing improved
<br /> active transportation alternatives for walking and bicycling through the
<br /> implementation of complete streets principles.
<br /> DHHL Waimanalo Regional Plan Update, Waimanalo, Oahu, Hawaii.
<br /> Planner. SSFM led the update of the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands'
<br /> Regional Plan for Waimanalo. The project documented current conditions and
<br /> changes since the last update.
<br /> Assessing the Feasibility of Managed Retreat from Vulnerable Coastal Areas
<br /> in Hawaii, Various Locations, Statewide, Hawaii. Planner. The project
<br /> involved preparation of a background report, execution of four case studies
<br /> and focus groups statewide, planning and execution of a symposium on
<br /> managed retreat, and a final report.
<br /> North Shore Sustainable Communities Plan Update, Oahu, Hawaii. Planner.
<br /> SSFM was the prime consultant for the update of the City and County DPP's
<br /> North Shore Sustainable Communities Plan. The plan established the vision,
<br /> policies, and land use patterns for the North Shore Planning District through
<br /> 2040 and beyond. It will be developed using an inclusive process that
<br /> combines research and data collection with community input.
<br /> East Kauai Community and Circulation Plan, Kauai, Hawaii. Planner. SSFM
<br /> supported the County of Kauai with preparation of the East Kauai Community
<br /> and Circulation Plan (EKCCP). The first long-range comprehensive plan for
<br /> the region, the EKCCP developed policy recommendations for land use,
<br /> transportation, housing, urban design, climate adaptation, infrastructure, and
<br /> other topics affecting the region. A series of technical studies and
<br /> comprehensive community engagement program were included in the scope.
