<br /> prevent large-scale flood damage. Mr. Yee participated in community outreach meetings, helped develop
<br /> alternate
<br /> a. plans that were more community-friendly and did not require condemning private lands, flooding school grounds
<br /> and provided equal or increased flood protection than those presented in the USACE plan. He also helped
<br /> evaluate
<br /> other community derived ideas such as flood gates and locks and pumps in the Ala Wai, underground detention
<br /> basins, retractable canal walls, dryland and wetland plots to dissipate and hold flood waters and dredging of the
