DISTRICTreport. no are ThereChair Committee Silva, Clyde – REPORTS <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON AGING MEETING MINUTES <br />Wednesday, July 31, 2024 <br />Page 3 <br /> <br /> <br />a) Bills and Resolutions updates: Horace reported there were: <br />- 1,293 House bills introduced and 143 bills passed. There were also 29 Acts. <br />- 1,385 Senate bills introduced and 119 bills passed. There were also 18 Acts. <br />- Total number of bills introduced this session were 2,678 and 262 passed and <br />there were 47 Acts. <br />- The Caregiver Tax Credit was moved to Health and Human Services and then <br />moved to Ways and Means (WAM). The bill died because they ran out of <br />time. <br />- AARP had a set of bills that made it through. <br /> <br />7. BUSINESS DISCUSSIONS – Clyde Silva, Committee Chair <br />a) Issues with Class Activities with the Department of Parks and Recreation: Pamela <br />Bruce mentioned issues with class activities with the Department of Parks and <br />Recreation. There were sign-up in June and there were no feedback from the <br />same people who complained about it before. Marsha Okajima mentioned that <br />there were a drive thru registration. Sandee Maeda mentioned that in Keaau they <br />added new classes and accommodate and separated to the difference levels. <br />Horace mentioned that the classes are handled by the Department of Parks and <br />Recreation, and it is not part of the Hawaii County Office of Aging (HCOA). <br />HCOA help purchase two (2) Kilns. One for Hilo and one for Kona. <br /> <br />Horace mentioned the end of the year Mayor’s report and it is the committee’s <br />opportunity to start listing down the concerns through the course of the year. <br />Horace suggested to the Chair (Clyde Silva) to start preparing the draft report. <br />Once it is done the committee will have a chance to review and discuss the <br />suggested topics at the next meeting. Marsha Okajima volunteered to draft the <br />letter of the Mayor’s report and to discuss at the next committee meeting. <br /> <br />b) Access to Adult Day Care Services for West Hawaii: Christine Monzo mentioned <br />that Hilo is the only day care that is currently operating. Horace mentioned <br />Ho’onani kept open the home care, and closed the day care. Currently both are <br />closed. It is difficult to find a centralized area to start a day care, and Kailua-Kona <br />would be a good place to have a day care. <br /> <br />8. <br /> <br /> <br />9.
