County oftlawai'i, Department offinance, Property Management <br /> Division <br /> Re: 11.-27-2024 Additional Information Requested fior the 2025 P(:7NC Stewardship Grant <br /> Application - Greenwell (25-08) <br /> Date: 20 December 2024 <br /> Pursuant to the 11-27-2024 request to provide additional information ior the 2025 PONC <br /> Stewardship (.irwit Application, we are pleased to provide Our response here below. <br /> 1.) In regard to the first inquiry regarding building permits: for work under [lie 2025 PO NC' <br /> Stewardship Grant Application, no building pernlits will be required, The only planned <br /> construction is I'or two simple nursery sheds each with a. lilotprillt Under 600 sq. ft. These <br /> structures, siniflar in contiguratioll to what is known locally as a hale, will stand on <br /> agrieulwrally-zoned land oil inoveable above-grotind pier blocks, with clear panel <br /> roofing acid no walls, no electricity", and 110 plumbing, These sheds will protect tree and <br /> plant seedlings froni the elements and enable the Garden to produce many more <br /> I lawaiian trees, shrubs, and plants to maintain and steward the (Jai-dell, while also <br /> contributing) substwitively to the ecological restoration, agricultural diversification, alld <br /> increased food Security off-lawai*i County. <br /> In regard to our past work, previously reported oil and reimbursed, 1(:,) conserve the former <br /> Amy Greenwell residence: over the past several PON(-' grants, \A/c pursued a series of. <br /> ilicrernetital repairs SUCIi as replacing wooded paneling. doors and cabinets that had been <br /> rendered unsafe by rot and termites and other finishes, trims and painting, and also <br /> installing fencing to prevent visitors from falling towards Mdmalahoa I lighway. Ili <br /> retrospect, we considered most ofthese as stabilizing for access ,in(] reparation, We have <br /> been making such incremental repairs and, safety upgrades in good faith, under the <br /> assumption that the repairs being made did not trigger building permit requirements. If, <br /> on further consideration, it is determined that our interpretation is not correct and permits <br /> are required Ibi- some of the work conducted to conserve and stabilize the Amy Greenwell <br /> house, we would like to rectify the issue. At all times, and with County Funding support, <br /> we acted in good faith in our stewardship of the Garden property and its assets. <br /> 2.) In regard to the second inquiry regarding expenses listed in the 2025 P()NC <br /> Stewardship Grant Application, no funds are requested for administrative expenses, <br />
