BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AND RELEVANCE TO THIS CONTRACT(Include scope,size,and cost) <br /> The Hilo Harbor breakwater is an <br /> approximately two-mile-long <br /> rubble mound rock structure that <br /> protects inner Hilo Bay's port <br /> facilities from direct wave <br /> exposure. �. �� <br /> Recent inspections of the Hilo <br /> breakwater have found areas of <br /> possible damage, mostly limited to - <br /> local areas along the structure. • <br /> Multiple visual inspections of the <br /> breakwater were conducted as part <br /> of the annual Project Condition Surveys (PCS), which were performed by a mix of USACE and Sea <br /> Engineering, Inc. (SE) inspection teams in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, and 2021. Observed <br /> irregularities were found to include displaced armor units, attrition of supportive core stone (hollowing <br /> out of core),structure slumping,and excessive settling.
