BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AND RELEVANCE TO THIS CONTRACT (Include scope,size,and cost) <br /> SWCA worked in partnership with the Department of Land and <br /> Natural Resources (DLNR) and the Division of Forests and Wildlife <br /> (DOFAW) to create a game management plan for the Kanaio <br /> region of southern Maui, which is one of the last remaining <br /> stretches of lowland dry forest left in the state of Hawaii. The <br /> proposed game management area (GMA) will expand <br /> opportunities for public hunting, aid in directing human traffic in the <br /> area, and curtail damage from activities such as illegal off-road ;. <br /> vehicles, unauthorized cattle grazing, and other human-caused <br /> disturbances, degradation, and destruction. <br /> SWCA undertook natural and cultural resource surveys within the w;- <br /> 8,000-acre GMA. The project involved conducting detailed cultural <br /> and archaeological background research, an archaeological <br /> inventory survey, extensive flora and fauna surveys, and home <br /> range and population estimates of game animals. The work <br /> included pre-consultation with the SHPD and other regulatory <br /> partners, archaeological inventory surveys, a cultural impact <br /> assessment, and post-project coordination and consultation. <br /> Cost: $736,190 <br /> 25.
