Mr. Jeff Darrow, Director HWY-DS 2.21162 <br /> October 1, 2025 <br /> Page 2 <br /> Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware (MASH) compliant bridge railings, drilled shafts and a <br /> drilled shaft cap in front of existing abutments with semi-integral backwall, concrete wingwalls <br /> and cheek walls, and approach slabs and sleeper slabs. While the existing steel trestle <br /> substructure will be removed, the existing concrete foundation footings and pedestals will remain <br /> in place. In addition to reconstruction of the Paheehee Stream Bridge, a two-lane bypass bridge <br /> will be installed with a travel way width limited to 24 foot and non-MASH compliant guardrails. <br /> Reconstruction will also require relocation of the overhead power lines on both the makai and <br /> mauka sides of the bridge. <br /> Public Review and Consultation <br /> A Section 106 notice/advertisement will be included in the Hawaii Tribune-Herald newspaper. <br /> HDOT reviewed the U.S. Department of Interior Office of Native Hawaiian Relations and <br /> identified NHOs near the Area of Potential Effect(APE).
