LT: Well, thank you very much, Leomana District 3; My only discussion on this idea is someone,
there's a lot of firearms incidents lately, and that's why I've been pushing with Micah to see if
we can get some of our funding to support updating our firearms knowledge, the laws, and
our training. Because someone was shot at the facility, yeah, kid, and he died. So, kind of
with the letter, I'm kind of thinking we should push out firearm safety awareness and some
sort of, not just, hey,we want a letter,to buy something because there's a gun range, but,
you know,we can have some community awareness. I'm... there's just a lot of shooting
going on, and even yesterday, there's a big one, so I'm like, oh, I got to try and, see if we can
get the commission to kind of lead Hawaii County in handling these kind of situations with
guns, because we are the people who have the most guns.Anyway, that was just my,
Mana'o.Thank you for the update.
??: Almost got the line.Yeah,the truth.Yeah.That's sad,that's a couple years ago,yeah.
LT: Okay, moving forward to our next agenda item,we've been waiting for these updates all
year. I'm super excited to get presentations, especially from the people who got all the
information. So,our next agenda item is Agenda item number 5, Presentations.5A,Joshua
Pang Ching,Wildlife Biologist, Game Section, Hawaii Department of Land and Natural
Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife, will provide an update on game birds on Hawaii
Island. Sir,thank you for joining us. And...just checking if you hear us.
5. PRESENTATION:
a. Joshua Pang-Ching,Wildlife Biologist, Game Section, Hawai'i Department of
Land Natural resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife will provide an
update on game birds on Hawai'i Island.
JC: Josh Pang-Ching:Sorry I wasn't able tojoin in person. I had some,field plans today,that I
couldn't get out of, so...Yeah, Robert,we talked about kind of just providing an update on
2025-2026, Gamebird season so far has been going from, what we've been experiencing,
what we've been talking to guys in the field, numbers we've been seeing, results, you know,
all that good stuff, I mostly have, some stuff to report back from Mauna Kea, parts of Mauna
Kea,and then Kapapala, so... :Yeah, Kapapala, Cooperative Game Management Area, Unit
J, has been really good. You know,we've... that's where our East Hawaii program has
focused, a lot of our game bird release efforts, from the chucker's and pheasants that our
program rears and releases, our... a lot of our efforts are focused out there. We've been
seeing good results, you know, birds have been being harvested by hunters on release birds,
and we've also been seeing some promising results of retention of birds. Over the years,
there's been a handful of birds that have come out, a handful of roosters, ringneck roosters,
that have come out, this season that were released. Two years ago. So, it's promising,
they've been surviving. Hunters have been seeing a lot of the hens that we've released, and
that's really the valuable one that we want to see survive, is the hens, because they'll go into
spring to reproduce. And on that note,we had two birds so far,two confirmed birds so far
that were wild, born pheasants that came out of Kapapala. So, any pheasants that have
6
