What principles <br />guide your allocation of personnel and public messaging? <br />VIII.Personal Integrity & Self-Awareness: What feedback have you received in your <br />career that was difficult to hear, but ultimately made you a better leader? <br />IX.Legacy & Commitment: Why is now the right time in your career for you to serve <br />as Chief of Police for Hawaii County? <br />X.Closing Question: Is there anything about your background, judgment, or <br />leadership that this commission should consider carefully before making its final <br />decision? <br />The following highlights the responses from the eight candidates based on the ten <br />standardized questions: <br />Paul Yang <br />Vice Chair Botelho asked the 10prepared interview questions,allowing three minutes <br />per response. <br />Dr. Paul Yang discussed his leadership philosophy,emphasizing transparency, <br />accountability, and community-centered policing. He highlighted the importance of <br />building public trust through clear accountability systems,early intervention programs, <br />and transparent communication, including the potential release of body-worn camera <br />footage when legally permissible. Dr. Yang described his experience in community <br />rtment as a national model <br />for community-centered policing. He also addressed recruitment and retention <br />strategies, officer wellness, and data-driven deployment of resources. Dr. Yang <br />emphasized servant leadership, cultural awareness, and his commitment tofostering <br />strong relationships with diverse communities while maintaining constitutional policing <br />standards. <br />Chad Janis <br />Commissioner Enriquez asked the 10 prepared interview questions, allowing three <br />minutes per response. <br /> <br />
