Hawaii Police Commission <br />Regular Session Minutes <br />October 22, 2010 <br />Page 2 <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />Commissioner Victorine moved to approve the regular session minutes of September 30, <br />2010. Commissioner Sumja seconded, and it carried unanimously. Ms. Pelayo stated that <br />the executive session minutes were not yet completed. <br />COMMUNICATIONS <br />• Correspondence 2010 -11, from Eddie Cordeiro regarding tinted license plate covers. <br />Commissioner Ono moved to accept, Commissioner Victorine seconded, and it carried <br />unanimously. <br />Honolulu Police Commission Minutes of September 1, 2010. Commissioner Victorine <br />moved to accept, Commissioner Ono seconded, and it carried unanimously. <br />COMMITTEE REPORTS <br />• Budget and Finance (Mende, Ono): No report. <br />• Office Management (Whittemore): No report. <br />• Rules and Policies ( Sumja, Victorine): No report. <br />• Public Relations (Ignacio, Pe`a- Ferrari): No report. <br />CHIEF'S REPORT <br />• Crime: Assistant Chief Tavares summarized the written report. He reported that the <br />Triathlon went well. They had 137 officers committed to the event at various times all <br />the way up to Kohala. They restricted traffic on Queen K Highway by giving out less <br />passes than previous years. Burglaries in Area I and II have increased. A lot of times <br />the spike is caused by a group of individuals. <br />Traffic: Assistant Chief Pacheco summarized the written report. Crashes and <br />fatalities are down. DUI arrests are up. Each district makes its own schedule for <br />seatbelt enforcement. At the end of the month, if they still have money left over, they <br />could do more enforcement. There is no concentrated enforcement on the ban of using <br />electronic control devices while driving like they do with seatbelt enforcement. <br />• Personnel: Deputy Chief Ferreira reported having 18 sworn and 18 civilian vacancies. <br />They are now screening for the 79th recruit class. <br />Finance: Deputy Chief Ferreira summarized the written report. The first draft of the <br />2012 budget is due on November 1St. If they receive a grant in mid -year, they have to <br />go to the County Council for approval to accept. <br />Chair Whittemore asked for their list of CIP projects. <br />
