Hilo women to do outreach in Hilo and make two packets of information <br />available. K. Peters will check with Costco and Kona Commons and E. Cabatu <br />will contact Wal Mart and KTA in Hilo to see if a display table can be set up. <br />J. Balberde-Kamalii mentioned that Keauhou Shopping Center is another great <br />location to consider because it draws the local community. <br />E. Cabatu stated that she will check with the HSCSW to see whether the radio <br />spots can be paid up front to run in September when school gets back in session. <br />K. Peters said there must be some form of enticement in order to catch the <br />young people to vote. For example, register to vote and register to win the iPod. <br />J. Balberde-Kamalii suggested finding local celebrities (musicians, Kat from <br />KWXX) to do a 30 second ad saying “Hi, I’m this person and I vote, what about <br />you”? <br />K. Nova stated that CSW can decide if they need subcommittees at the next <br />meeting. <br />2.Legislative Update <br />E. Cabatu reported that the package is out and package is rolling. <br />D.Community Reports <br />None. <br />UNFINISHED BUSINESS <br />A.Teen Dating Violence Prevention Peer Education Conference <br />Tabled. <br />B.Teens Internet Protection – A. Mejia <br />A. Mejia reported that a teens internet protection presentation was held at <br />thth <br />Keonepoko Elementary School for 4 to 6 graders on February 2. A request is <br />being made to have a presentation for parents and faculty. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />A.Human Trafficking/Teen Prostitution – Brenda Olcott, Guest speaker <br />B. Olcott described her personal experience about her daughter, Meghan Olcott, <br />who was a victim of human trafficking/teen prostitution. <br />B.Children’s Justice Center <br />A. Mejia reported that Terri Lum, Program Director, Children’s Justice Center of East <br />Hawaii, is requesting letters of support from agencies and the community to have <br />their budget maintained. After some discussion A. Mejia moved that CSW will send <br />a letter of support for the Children’s Justice Center of East Hawaii. J. Balberde- <br />Kamalii seconded the motion. The motion was passed with K. Peters abstaining. <br />J. Viernes will email a draft copy of the support letter to CSW members for review <br />and comments. <br />4 <br /> <br />
