<br />COMMITTEE ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN <br />Friday, January 16, 2009, 10:00 a.m. <br />Department of Parks & Recreation Conference Room <br />PRESENT EXCUSED <br />Katie Nova, Chair Ellen Takazawa, Secretary <br />Carol Kitaoka, Vice-Chair Kathleen Peters <br />Nancy Kelly, Treasurer Mary Sherman <br />Andrea Mejia Julie Mecklenburg, Corporation <br />Dawn Pung Counsel, (ex-officio) <br />Elena Cabatu, HSCSW Commissioner <br /> (ex-officio) ABSENT <br /> Charmaine Ka-ipo <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />The meeting was called to order at 10:20 a.m. <br />ROLL CALL <br />A quorum was present. <br />APPROVAL OF AGENDA <br />N. Kelly moved to approve the agenda as submitted. D. Pung seconded the motion. The <br />motion was passed. <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />N. Kelly moved to approve the December 17, 2008 minutes. A. Mejia seconded the <br />motion. The motion was passed. <br />TREASURER’S REPORT <br />N. Kelly circulated and reviewed the budget status report (white) from July 1- <br />December 31, 2008 and the projected budget status report (pink). <br />C. Kitaoka reviewed her budget for the essay contest. The winners will receive a $100 <br />savings bond for first place, $75 savings bond for second place, and $50 savings bond for <br />third place. All of the winning teachers will receive a $25 Borders gift card. There will be <br />no medals, invitations, and a photographer this year. Lunch will be included for the <br />winners, “Real Woman,” teachers, principals, one parent, CSW members and <br />ex-officios, staff secretary, Council Chairman, and the Mayor. Cost of the lunch including <br />service charge and tax is $28.51. Leis will be given to the winners and dignitaries. The <br />“Real Women” will receive a gift from Big Island Candies. D. Pung will inquire with Big <br />Island Candies for donations. A. Mejia offered to obtain estimates for the leis at $3-4 per <br />lei. The luncheon awards ceremony has been moved to Sunday, March 1, 2009. <br />K. Nova suggested that CSW purchase one mental health screening kit at the end of this <br />fiscal year. <br />Hawai‘i County is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer <br /> <br />
