airfare, dinner meal, car rental, and parking for J. Moon. J. Balberde-Kamalii
seconded the motion. The motion was passed.
J. Each recipient
received a one-night hotel accommodation for two at the Hilton Waikoloa Village,
a framed underwater photo, and a $25 gift card for Safeway. The committee
decided that each member volunteer to get one donated item for the honorees
with flexibility on the value. K. Peters suggested a standard letter of solicitation
and send it out to the art galleries on the island. She would be willing to contact
businesses in Kona and identify what this project is all about rather than asking
friendsforadonation.However,D.Nodaindicatedthatsheneedstoresearch
whether CSW can solicit donations.Does the committee want to establish a
higherdollar valueif the program continues and there is a full change in
membership? What if five yearsdown the road a recipient receives a small
plaque and recalls a previous recipient receiving a koa bowl?
C. Ka-ipo mentioned about the Office of Aging award that was uniquely designed
and given to its recipients. She suggested that the Womens Hall of Fame award
be a necklace or something that the recipient could wear that signifies their rank
as being in the Hall of Fame. M. Masunaga mentioned about a vase she
received with a plaque that was attractive. Aftersome discussion on the type of
award to be given to each recipient, CSW decided to table the issue on
donations until D. Noda provides clarification at the next meeting.
J. Balberde-Kamalii suggested that D. Pung follow up with J. Moon to determine
whether she will be available for lunch or dinner so CSW can make a decision on
the time of the event.
B. Health
1. Womens Health Month
M. Masunaga reported that the HSCSW has no funding this year for Womens
Health Month.
M. Masunaga suggested that E. Takazawa compile a list of activities for the Big
Island so the information can be disseminated.
D. Noda asked the status of the HSCSW. M. Masunaga said that a meeting was
held with Governor L. Lingle in December and she promised to release the funds.
Themoneywasalwaysthere,buttheGovernorhastoreleaseitandittook
several months for her to release it.
