Secretary; E. Takazawa, Treasurer. C. Ka-ipo seconded the motion. The motion <br />was passed. <br />C. Teen Dating Violence Prevention Initiative Training Program <br />M. Masunaga reported that CSW received continued funding from Council <br />Vice-Chair V. Isbell for the teen dating violence prevention initiative training program <br />for next fiscal year. She would like to coordinate a February 2006 training date with <br />the Hawaii Youth Services Network from Oahu. C. Kitaoka is on the planning <br />committee for the project focusing on homeless and runaway teens. <br />D. GEMS Program <br />M. Masunaga reported that the GEMS Program has scheduled their workshop on <br />Thursday, October 20, 2005, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Outrigger Keauhou <br />Beach Resort.CSW isinvitedto attend. <br />M. Masunaga reported that she had a long conversation with Chairperson <br />Kiera Horgan about the GEMS Program. The district superintendent for the West <br />th <br />Hawaii Complex has been contacted regarding the workshop date. All 5 grade girls <br />in the West Hawaii Complex are invited to attend. If there is a school that has a <br />ththth <br />5/6 grade combination class, then the 6 graders in that class will be invited <br />based on space availability. Approximately 224 students will be attending the event. <br />M. Masunaga said that she spoke to K. Horgan about CSWs concerns on selection. <br />K. Horgan replied that last year they had 175 students and nobody was excluded. <br />th <br />She also invited the home schooled and private schools 5 graders to participate. <br />Preference is given to the public schools students first and there are more slots this <br />year than last year. <br />There will be 15 workshops with 14 students per workshop. The following speakers <br />have been confirmed: Tracy Brennan, firefighter and paramedic; Beth Jose, <br />Veterinarian; Valerie Hoke, Katherine Petterson, Occupational Therapist; <br />Gisela Hetherington, Chemist from NELHA; Melanie Bondera, organic farmer; <br />LauraDeirenfield,mobilelab;CrystalThomas-Yamasaki,surveyor;TeriLeicher, <br />scuba diver; Liz Chock and Myrna Tsubota, software engineer at Keck; and <br />SarahAnderson,alsofromKeck.Pendingspeakersareafinancialspeakerand <br />other speakers. <br />M. Masunaga said she also inquired about having the event in East Hawaii. <br />K.HorgansaidEastHawaiihastheirownprogram,buttheycoordinateitwiththe <br />th <br />Girls Scouts and invite 8 <br /> graders. Since the University of Hawaii at Hilo speakers <br />isused,theirbudgetisnotasmuchbecausetheycanutilizethefacilitiesatthe <br />university. <br />M.
