TRANSFER STATIONS <br />CDBG project has been awarded to Isemoto Contracting. <br />· <br />Repairs will begin at Waiohinu, Glenwood, Pahoa and paving at Waiohinu and Hilo. <br />· <br />Application has been submitted for a $1M CDBG grant to be used for repairs at Volcano. <br />· <br />Sanborn requested repair at Waimea Transfer Station and placement of wind barriers in <br />· <br />windy areas. <br />BARGING PRIVATE WASTE PROPOSALS <br />Three companies have contacted Dworsky regarding barging. A synopsis was given on <br />· <br />their proposals. He has suggested they respond to the WRT RFP. <br />Barging is being considered as an interim solution between the Hilo Landfill slope <br />· <br />expansion being completed and the waste technology coming on-line. <br />Leithead-Todd explained to the Commission how the solution to the landfill closure and <br />pursuit of a waste reduction technology cannot be considered an emergency purchase <br />according to the County Charter and the State Procurement laws. <br />6.: <br />UNFINISHED BUSINESS <br />OFF-ISLAND SITE TOUR TO MAUI (Itinerary attached to original minutes) <br />The tour will be on April 3, 2006 and the group will be accompanied by a member of the <br />· <br />Maui County Solid Waste Division. <br />STATUS REPORT AUDIT, RESOLUTION NO. 168 <br />Audit is about halfway completed and is being conducted according to legislative audit <br />· <br />criteria. <br />Preliminary report is expected in the next month. <br />· <br />STATUS REPORT NEW COMMISSION MEMBERS <br />Mayor has nominated Newton Inouye to District 2 position.(Letter attached to original <br />· <br />minutes) <br />DISCUSSION: WAIKOLOA CURBSIDE RECYCLING <br />Townscape and their subcontractor, EcoCycle, have been chosen as consultants for this <br />· <br />project. <br />Project will include trash and recycling curbside pick-up. <br />· <br />7. <br />NEWBUSINESS <br />DISCUSSION:EPABROWNFIELDSGRANTAPPLICATIONWAIMEA <br />LANDFILL/TRANSFER STATION <br />Applicationhasbeensubmitted.AwaitingdecisionfromEPA. <br />· <br />DISCUSSION: BARGING TRASH TOTHE MAINLAND (See Solid Waste Division <br />Report) <br />SOLIDWASTEFACILITIESHOLIDAYCLOSURES(SeeSolidWasteDivisionReport) <br />-3- <br /> <br />
