GREENWASTE: <br />Organics Diversion Contract has been awarded to EKO Compost. Beginning July 1, 2005, <br />· <br />EKO will take over operation of the two greenwaste sites. Boulders will be placed to <br />establish property line and ongoing monitoring will continue. <br />Kealakehe greenwaste site: <br />· <br />(1) there is a backlog due to the large greenwaste in-flow <br />(2) greenwaste area is limited in size <br />(3)there is more greenwaste coming in than mulch going out. <br />Hilo: Mulch is being used to augment daily landfill cover. <br />· <br />Pahoa: There are plans to have a greenwaste site at the Transfer Station in early 2006. <br />· <br />Waimea: The area behind the Transfer Station is being temporarily used by the County€s <br />· <br />Kohala Highway Maintenance crew to stock pile gravel, greenwaste and other materials. <br />HILO LANDFILL CLOSURE: Estimate unchanged at this time -- March, 2006. <br />STUDENT HELPER RECOGNITION: <br />Tyson and Eileen O`Hora-Weir introduced Brittany Smart and Chris Chin-Chance and <br />· <br />acknowledged their contributions to the Solid Waste Division. Ms. Smart and Mr. Chin- <br />Chance have proven to be invaluable to the Solid Waste Division and were instrumental in <br />assisting the County in the acquisition of grant funds and initiation and maintenance of <br />many important County projects. Both will be leaving their positions shortly. <br />(attached to original minutes) <br />Wastewater Division Chiefs Report <br />HILO WTP NPDES PERMIT RENEWAL <br />Zone of Mixing Dye Test is being conducted today. <br />· <br /> (attached to original minutes) <br />Technical Services Section Report <br />Bell briefed the Commission on this new section which will be responsible for engineering/ <br />technical functions of Department CIP and long term planning projects. Divisions will <br />continue to handle operation functions. <br />Henry will request an updated organizational chart <br />from Department Personnel Office and will distribute to commissioners. <br />KING KAMEHAMEHA SPS RENOVATIONS: <br />The repair of a leaky wet well wall and corroded influent pipe will delay project <br />· <br />completionby two weeks. <br />Project name has been changed from King Kamehameha to Lanihau. <br />· <br />CLARIFICATION OF KOMOHANA AND KOMOHANA HEIGHTS LOCATIONS: <br />Komohana subdivision is located in Kona. Komohana Heights subdivision is located in <br />· <br />Hilo and is a large capacity cesspool replacement project. <br />KILOHANA SEWER IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT: <br />Improvement District is being considered to address the large capacity cesspool issue. <br />· <br />(attachedtooriginalminutes) <br />DirectorsReport <br />DEPARTMENT OPERATING AND CAPITAL BUDGET: <br />DirectorencouragedthecommissionerstocontactCouncilmembersandoffertestimonyin <br />· <br />supportoftheSortStationfundingrequestpriortothesecondreadingofthebudgeton <br />June 1, 2005. <br />-2- <br /> <br />
