trying to look for a way to utilize County resources. We're saying that <br />there are times when inevitably County resources and time will be <br />necessarily infringed upon. That's what this is about. <br />CHAIR: Well the analogy, Wayne, with being a teacher was a good one, you <br />know, I think the three of us have got experience in education as well. <br />We've all done all this. My thinking is search your own souls, where <br />you've been in the classroom in a school situation and done something <br />that wasn't specifically germane to your lesson material, your classroom <br />instruction, and there was, there were some spill -overs in that. I think if <br />you maintain an ethical framework, an ethical approach, some , <br />we have some checks and balances as well, the Board of Ethics <br />on this issue, I guess. There's a manageable —it's a <br />manageable endeavor, and I personally feel like, I bow to the corp <br />counsel audience to initiate this, to take this on, spearhead the effort for <br />the other counties, and it seems to beI think it's commendable, and I <br />think indeed that the legal service, the legal profession, needs some <br />more white hats, as it were, to go out there and set the example and do <br />pro Bono work for the indigent in the communities, so I frankly, I <br />have no problems with this, but Iwe don't need—we can discuss this <br />further in private or public. <br />KK: Well one more question, Mr. Ashida. You know, you are representing <br />the Corp Counsel, but you were before. Does this apply to <br />the Prosecutor's Office too? Or are you just speaking for your- <br />ASHIDA: I can only speak for myself <br />KK: Oh, okay <br />CHAIR: - -good question, though. <br />KK: Does it come up —the DA might come down some day and -- <br />ASHIDA: - -and I'm not suggesting that I'm speaking for the other counties as <br />well. They were just curious what the outcome of this is. They may <br />totally disagree with you. They may totally disagree with me. I can <br />only speak for our house and what we do. <br />KK: But they fall under the same Moon mandate. <br />ASHIDA: You tell them that, I won't. <br />KK: No, I mean- <br />14 <br />
