RECOMMENDATIONS - HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE PROGRAM <br />RECOMMENDATIONS — <br />REPORT <br />STATUS <br />REFERENCE <br />HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE PROGRAM <br />1. We recommend that DEM together with the County review current procedures <br />and research possibilities for new economically feasible technologies, facilities, <br />IN <br />p. 41 <br />and procedures that would identify and prevent hazardous wastes from entering <br />PROGRESS <br />County landfills. <br />2. We recommend that the County establish permanent sites for ongoing collection <br />IN <br />p. 41 <br />of both household and commercial hazardous wastes. <br />PROGRESS <br />3. We recommend that DEM clarify the applicability of HRS chapters 342G and <br />342J to the County's household hazardous waste program, and either bring the <br />IMPLEMENTED <br />p. 42 <br />program into compliance with statutory requirements or obtain a legal <br />determination that compliance is being waived by the State. <br />4. We recommend that DEM implement procedures for reconciliation of contractor <br />IN <br />p. 42 <br />collections reports with shipping manifests and delivery receipts from certified <br />PROGRESS <br />reuse and disposal facilities. <br />ix <br />
