PUBLIC FACILITIES — Protective Services <br />Page 10 -11, 10.3.1 Introduction And [Analysis] Description: <br />"Fire and Emergency Medical Services <br />There are presently [14] 20 regular fire stations, [18] 22 volunteer fire stations and [2] 1 <br />federal fire [stations] station located throughout the island. The County is proposing a <br />fire station in the Kalaoa -Mauka area. The [Kilauea Military Camp (KMC) and] <br />Pohakuloa fire [stations are] station is a federally operated [facilities] facility. [KMC <br />provides emergency medical services under an agreement with the County.] The regular <br />fire stations [and three of the volunteer stations (Laupahoehoe, Pahala, Naalehu)] provide <br />24 -hour fire fighting and emergency medical services. The Waiakea and Kailua -Kona <br />stations provide rescue services, the Kaumana [and South Kohala stations provide] <br />station provides hazardous [waste] materials response and the South Kohala station <br />provides air medical services." <br />2. Page 10 -14, 10.3.2 Policies: <br />"(i) Maintain [funding of two] an appropriate number and type of emergency <br />[medical] helicopters, including appropriate aero medical capabilities." <br />PUBLIC FACILITIES — Health And Sanitation <br />Page 10 -22, 10.5.1 Introduction And [Analysis] Description , Hospitals and Related <br />Facilities: <br />"The County's Fire Department also provides ambulance service from the Captain Cook, <br />Central, Honokaa, Kailua -Kona, Keaau, [and] Waimea, Kawailani, Pahoa, Naalehu, <br />Keauhou, South Kohala, North Kohala, Waikoloa, Volcano and Ocean View Fire <br />Stations. The County's ambulances are first response units for these service areas while <br />the ambulances at the Kohala and Ka`u hospitals are the first response units for their <br />respective area." <br />TRANSPORTATION — Roadways <br />4. Page 13 -7, PUNA, 13.2.5.1.2 Courses of Action. <br />Add a new course of action as follows: <br />(c) Encourage the State to widen Highway 130 to four lanes with a median and <br />channelized intersections or modern roundabouts. <br />
