TAX TIME ALREADY?! <br /> <br />Once again CSE and AARP will be teaming up to offer tax preparation <br />services to low income seniors who need help filing their 2011 tax returns. <br />Seniors living in East Hawai‘i can begin calling CSE at 961-8777 to schedule an <br />appointment after January 3, 2012. In West Hawai‘i please call the AARP Tax <br />Assistance program at 334-1212. <br /> <br />AARP Tax Aides volunteer their times to offer this important service. Donations are <br />happily accepted and are used to provide food and beverages to the <br />volunteers each day. AARP continues to look for Tax Aide volunteers who can <br />assist seniors with their simple tax returns. All necessary training will be provided for free. <br />If you are interested please call us at 961-8777. <br /> <br />MAHALO TO MR. HERBERT IKEDA <br /> <br />Mr. Ikeda has been a STEP enrollee stationed at the CSE Hilo office since July 2009. He has <br />been a tremendous help in assisting with the transportation services, standing by and helping <br />seniors in and out of our CSE vehicles. Always full of energy and good cheer, the place just isn’t <br />gonna be the same without you Mr. Ikeda. CSE wishes you all the best in your future endeavors. <br /> <br />HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS <br /> <br />Since the hurricane season is upon us, here are a few tips from a Civil Defense preparedness booklet: <br /> <br /> A Disaster Supply Kit should include: <br />7 day supply of water (1 gallon per person, per day) <br />Non-perishable food <br />One change of clothing & shoes <br />Prescription & non-prescription medications <br />One blanket or sleeping bag per person <br />First Aid Kit <br />Battery powered National Weather Radio/portable radio <br />Emergency tools <br />Flashlight & batteries <br />Set of car keys & credit card or cash <br />Special items for elderly, disabled or infants <br /> <br />A Shelter Kit should include: <br /> <br />First Aid Kit <br />Medication & Prescriptions <br />If needed, baby food & diapers <br />Books, music player w/ headset <br />Toiletries <br />Battery powered radio & cell phone <br />Identification <br />Copies of important papers (such as insurance policies) <br />Cash & credit card <br /> <br /> <br />Seniors who would like to be placed on the CSE Emergency Evacuation List may call your district <br />CSE office or the Hilo office at 961-8777 or Kona office 323-4320. <br /> <br />Kupuna News 3 October-December 2011
