MS. POINDEXTER: I agree that we should take Puako.
MR. CARVALHO: I think Puako should be in District 9. I think we can move further up than
Puako, but let's hold that for a while.
MR. KAHUI: I think, looking at the two constituents from Kona over here, and knowing that we
are still within the median.
MR. CARVALHO: Yours is pretty low; 18,000.
MR. KAHUI: We were at 18,800 previous to that. Looking at the overall mean, would that
number meet that standard?
MR. CARVALHO: No, you are .7% under.
MR. MELROSE: What I would do is come back and there is a tight way to do it in the middle of
Kailua town. It is kind of the Kuakini area where there are some residential units. Go right into
the middle of Kailua town. It's a little odd, but you see where Kuakini comes up and connects
with Hualalai Road, that long triangle there.
MR. KANUHA: Yes, more of District 7 needs to go into District 8.
MR. MELROSE: Right; and it could actually be Nani Kailua. It's very populated in there.
MR. KANUHA: Well, I need to shed about 1,000.
MR. MELROSE: Which, Nani Kailua has more than that, I think.
MR. KAHUI: Could we just make that adjustment now?
MR. KANUHA: Put all of Nani Kailua inside District 8.
MR. MELROSE: If you get Nani Kailua, you have to take the whole area to Hualalai Road
though. Now, you are 1,000 low; which, you are a growing district.
MR. KAHUI: We're okay with that, I think.
MR. MELROSE: Your deviation is a little over, you are at 5.58 %.
MR. KAHUI: It was that much of a change? Take some back, Dru.
MR. MELROSE: Dru needs another, not quite 1,000. But he needs a couple votes on his side.
MR. KAHUI: Go ahead, take some back.
MR. MIDDLESWORTH: It's hard to do, that's the thing.
30
