Special Programs <br /> <br />2008 Moku O Hawai`i Senior Olympics <br /> <br />"LET THE GAMES BEGIN" <br />(Cover Story) <br /> <br />The journey happens every four years..... It accomplished it's travel once again, and it arrived at <br />a new and different site than the last. The commemorative "Torch" traveled around the Big <br />Island, and on June 18th with members of the Honokaa Senior Club, it arrived at the host site of <br />the opening ceremonies ....the Honokaa Gym and Complex. <br />From the wee hours of the morning, over 300 Big Island seniors were transported island -wide <br />from different towns to participate in the opening festivities, as well as, in six final events: Darts, <br />Frisbee Throw, Ground Golf, Hanafuda, Rummikub, and Jan-Ken-Po. <br /> <br />The thrill of competition, excitement, and fun filled the air. At the end of the day, the 1st, 2nd, and <br />3rd place winners of these six events were proudly presented their gold, silver, and bronze <br />medals for their successful accomplishment. <br /> <br />The excitement of the Moku O Hawai`i Senior Olympics is still on-going for finalists in six of the <br />19 FINAL events. The final six events scheduled in July are: <br /> <br />Basketball Shoot July 09, 2008 9:00 am Carvalho Park <br />Walk-A-Thon July 11, 2008 9:00 am Waiakea High <br />Bowling July 10, 2008 9:00 am Hilo Lanes <br />Hawai`i Kupuna Softball Tournament July 15 – 17, 2008 8:00 am Kailua Park Complex Fields <br /> <br />Home Run Derby July 16, 2008 10:00 am Kailua Park Lower Field <br /> <br />Softball Throw July 16, 2008 10:00 am Kailua Park Lower Field <br /> <br />From our hearts ....
