High and rising vacancy rates often put downward pressure on rents, yet median asking
rents increased significantly over the same period. A change in the price distribution of vacant
units, with a larger proportion of the vacant units renting for over $1,000 per month, could
explain why median rents increased while vacancy rates rose.
Hawaii Housing Planning Study,2011: Rental Housing Page 14
©SMS, Inc.
