SENIOR CITIZEN IDENTIFICATION NEW HIGHWAY IN KONA

The Ane Keohokalole Highway, aka the Mid-Level Road, opened on June 24, 2012. The new
highway helps to alleviate traffic congestion. Ane Keohokalole Highway runs parallel to and
about 1 mile mauka of the Queen Kaahumanu Highway from Palani Road to Hina Lani Street in
Kailua-Kona.

It is named after Chiefess Ane Keohokalole, the mother of Lili‘uokalani, the last monarch of the
Hawaiian Kingdom.

If you haven’t checked it out yet, you may want to drive by and check it out! The highway runs
right past the West Hawai‘i Civic Center, the complex where West Hawai‘i’s Elderly Activities
Division and Coordinated Services for the Elderly offices are located.

Photo of: West Hawai‘i CSE staff back row L to R: Janice Klingenberg, Angie Onaka, Junie-Ann Kamoku, Jill
Sugiyama.
