Bicycle Lane ---- "Means that portion of any highway <br />which has been set aside for the preferential or <br />exclusive use of bicycles" (Figure 2). <br />The Statewide Traffic Code requires that, "whenever a <br />usu able bicycle lane has been provided on a highway <br />any person operating a bicycle... shall ride within <br />such bicycle lane... " except as provided by law. The <br />designation of a specific space for bicycles along <br />the highway allows motorists to expect bike movement <br />and enables motorists to pass the slower moving bicycles <br />safely. Cross f low through the bike lane is permitted <br />by motorists upon a permanent or authorized temporary <br />driveway; in the process of executing a legal turn, lane <br />change, or parking maneuver, an authorized emergency <br />vehicle performing the functions under Section 291C-26, <br />(H.
