Promote, acquire, and develop neighborhood parks <br />• Support Pahoa Regional Town Center Steering Committee in implementation of the <br />neighborhood park plan (PCDP 3.5.3 c. 2) <br />• Support Friends of Mountain View Gym in development of a children's playground <br />and in renovation of the Mountain View A. J. Watts Gymnasium (PCDP 3.5.3 c. 6) <br />13. Design, construct, and furnish a community center for Mountain View Village (PCDP <br />3.5.3. c 8; 3.1.3 b. c. d.) <br />Include a community meeting room, a certified kitchen, covered assembly area, <br />handicapped access entries, restrooms, public parking, picnic area, and all other <br />features normally included in community center developments <br />14. Propose National Scenic Byway designation for Highway #11 corridor between <br />Mountain View Village and the eastern boundary of the Volcanoes National Park (PCDP <br />4.4 and 4.5; 3.1.3 c. 2) <br />15. Support and promote development of long range community plans for Kurtistown, <br />Orchidland, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Leilani Estates (PCDP 3.1.3 a -f; 3.2.3 i,; 3.4.3 h) <br />• Assist County Planning Department with development of guidelines to assist <br />communities who intend to develop long range plans <br />• Identify individuals and groups in communities who might organize long range plan <br />efforts <br />Action Committee: <br />Grass roots interest and active participation in the implementation specific PCDP Actions or <br />projects that promote the goals and objectives of the PCDP continues to expand. Undoubtedly, <br />the leadership demonstrated by the Action Committee as a whole and by individual AC members <br />accepting the responsibility of championing specific projects and participating in multiple <br />subcommittees has contributed to a growing sense of civic responsibility in Puna. Despite the <br />economic recession of the past 4 years, the impacts from continued population growth in Puna, <br />coupled with a number of significant commercial development projects and proposals, have <br />likely served to elevate the level of awareness and concern in the community. <br />5 <br />
