The Commission took this item up at 11:45 a.m. with six people from the public in attendance. Mr. Darrow oriented the Commission and public of the subject and surrounding properties on the location map and site plan, summarized the request, and noted the Planning Director recommended a favorable consideration to the Hawai‘i County Council with conditions. The applicant, Vince M. Kimura, said Central Supply is a locally owned distributor with eight employees, and has been in business since 1979. In response to Commissioner Ono’s inquiries, Mr. Kimura said they have only cleared the trees and erected a fence in the rear portion of the property since they purchased the property in 2003. In response to the Chair’s inquiry, Mr. Kimura said as soon the rezoning is approved, they will put the project out to bid, noting they cannot complete construction by July 2013 deadline. There was no one from the public wishing to testify on the application. It was moved by Commissioner Gonzales and seconded by Commissioner Henkel to send a favorable recommendation for a five-year time extension to the Hawai‘i County Council with conditions.
