FIRE CHIEF’S REPORT <br />Chief Rosario highlighted items on his written report. <br />BUDGET <br /> <br /> Fiscal Year 2012-13:Chief Rosario reported that they are at 87.37% of the <br />budget which is at 97%. They are under budget due to the MICT students <br />returning to work. They will end the year with a positive figur <br />amount is still unknown. They will have to transfer some funds <br />budgeted) expenditures items to over budget (under budgeted) items. <br /> <br /> Fiscal Year 2013-14: Chief Rosario reported that the Mayor granted their <br />supplemental budget request. They got two class A pumpers, standard fire <br />trucks, to replace those in Keaau and Honoka'a. The fire truck in Honoka'a is 20 <br />years old and the one in Keaau is 19 years old. They will be ge <br />tanker. Their goal is to have a tanker in all fire districts. This will help <br />homeowners meet the water supply code. The 12 firefighter positions were <br />refunded, and they are targeting a recruit class in April. They received two full- <br />time Water Safety Officers for Punalu'u. They received funds for six water safety <br />towers to replace the old wooded towers. They received an additional mechanic <br />for the maintenance shop. This person will be out on the road to do maintenance <br />and preventative maintenance rather than having the equipment come into Hilo. <br />Their bigger goal is to have a West Hawai'i maintenance shop. They received an <br />additional $300,000 in their overtime budget. <br /> <br />ALTERNATIVE FUNDING AND GRANTS <br /> <br /> FY 2012 CDBG Grant for Pahoa Tanker: There was a delay due to the pump <br />housing not being delivered on time. <br /> <br /> FY 2012 Assistance to Fire Firefighters Grant Application: This is for a safety <br />course for building entrapment. The vendor is working on meeting the <br />requirements to do business in Hawai'i <br /> <br /> FY 2013 CDBG Grant for Waiakea Quint: They are working on the bid <br />specifications. <br /> <br /> Capital Improvement Projects <br /> Kawailani Fire Station Replacement: They continue to move forward. Chief <br />Honda is working with DLNR to transfer title of the property. <br /> <br /> Hapuna Water Safety Tower: The tower was placed on site.
