3) Support Puna Community Medical Center (PCDP 3.3.1, 3.3.3a, 3.4.2a) A/C Champion: Rene Siracusa Description: Build Puna Community Medical Center - The Urgent /Acute Care Clinic in Pahoa Marketplace has now seen more than 23,000 patients over 10,500+ visits since opening on Feb. 1, 2009. The clinic is now averaging about 500 patients /month. When County, State and private businesses were closed for Hurricane Flossie, the clinic stayed open so that help would be available during the expected emergency. A/C Tasks Completed to date: • State Land Identified • PCMC has received donations from Nanawale CA ($1,000) and Hawaiian Beaches CA ($1,293) to support the Building Fund for its proposed Emergency Room A/C Next Action Item: • Write letters of support for continued funding and for grants • Testify on Med Center behalf at Planning Commission and County Council hearings • Support application to DLNR for long term lease on a 5 -ac property in Pahoa • Support expansion of health services and building expansion • OCT 2013 - 3 fundraising concerts planned island -wide - internationally acclaimed jazz guitarist Andrea Razzauti and backup musicians. 4) Designate Connecting Roadways in Puna Subdivisions (PCDP 4.3.3 [3,4, and 5]) A/C Champion: Subcommittee formed (Dan, Patti, Farris, Sharon) Chair: Marlene Hapai Description: Promote Health and safety by establishing a series if connectivity locations between Puna subdivisions and surrounding areas A/C Tasks Completed to date: • Planning /organizing PREP Fair August 312013 with support from Civil Defense • July 13th -Emergency Evacuation Mapping Training Workshop - Keaau Community Center - 20 people attended • Aug 3rd - Emergency Evacuation Mapping Workshop A/C Next Action Item: • Aug 31st - Puna Regional Emergency Preparedness (PREP) Fair - Keaau High School 5) Designate Red Road (Hwy 137) as a National Scenic Byway [4.5.3 (f)] A/CChampion: Farris Etterlee Description: File for State Scenic Byway designation A/C Tasks Completed to date: • KAPONO Submitted Scenic Byways Application (PCDP 4.5) • A/C Support Letter for Scenic Byway Application Submitted 4/2013 • Red Road Scenic Byway Designation Awarded A/C Next Action Item: • Form /Train Red Road Scenic Byway Corridor Management Committee 6) Create a safe swimming area at Pohoiki coastal park A/C Champion: Oshi Simsarian
