Description: A/C Tasks Completed to date: • Group formed to address issues (Oshi, Luana Jones, Bird) • Met with Councilman Hagan and Kern and presented ideas • CIP request for funding for feasibility study (currently in the budget) • Met with Park and Recreation who wrote a support letter to Rep. Russell Ruderman • Discussed issue with Rep. Russell Ruderman who requested $250K in funding at the last session - support but did not get funding • 7/13 Group met with Rep. Russell Ruderman at Pohoiki and discussed the community vision and how to proceed from here. • Group members testified at County Council Committee meeting where Councilman Hagan and Kern voiced strong support for the swimming area. • The County Council at the Committee hearing voted unanimously in favor A/C Next Action Item: 7) Implement a management plan for Wai'opae Marine Life Conservation District (PCDP 3.5.3 [e]2) A/C Champion: Oshi Description: Alternative access to the area outside of the community access A/C Tasks Completed to date: • Submitted PONC request to Acquire the 321 -acre Hara property • AC Letter in support of the Acquisition • 3/13 - Group met with Councilman Hagan and worked with his office to draw up resolution to be passed by Council to authorize the release of the funding for acquistion • 6/13 - Group (6 +) worked together to re- submit the application for acquisition on A/C Next Action Item: • Encourage DLNR to more effectively enforce Conservation District rules • Implement a patrol and enforcement partnership with the communities in proximity to the M LCD • Work with Vacationland subdivision to improve signage at Wai'opae about protecting the coral 8) Collaborate with Dept of Mass Transit to establish Hub and Spoke public bus routes (PCDP 4.2.3) A/C Champion: Subcommittee formed (Dan, Patti, June, Sharon) Chair: Marty Mimmack Description: Subcommittee main focus of the subcommittee is to implement a public bus routing strategy that would circulate busses between hubs (Hilo - Kea'au; Kea'au — Pahoa; Kea'au — Volcano) with secondary routes that would deliver passengers to the hub terminals or to the main corridors. This routing pattern is recommended in the Puna Community Development Plan (PCDP) and has the authority of ordinance, and thus is the obligate purpose of the subcommittee. Insufficient funding levels at MTA and demands for bus service to un- served areas dilutes the Hub - and -Spoke model so that such a system has not yet been implemented.
