Physical therapists help people who have injuries or illnesses to improve their <br />movement and manage their pain. They are often an important part of rehabilitation <br />and treatment of patients with chronic conditions or injuries. Employment of <br />physical therapists is expected to increase 39% from 2010 to 2020, much faster than <br />the average for all occupations. Demand for physical therapy services will come, in <br />large part, from the aging baby boomers, who are staying active later in life than the <br />previous generations did. <br />To assist physicians In outlying areas, rotating specialists lease clinic space on a <br />weekly or monthly rotation. Patients can be seen for specialty care evaluations, <br />check -ups and follow -up exams closer to their homes. <br />2. OBJECTIVES <br />The proposed use would provide residents of Puna with an alternative to <br />traveling to Hilo for these medical services. As of 2010, the population of the <br />district of Puna over 60 years of age was 18.5%. With Puna the fastest <br />growing district, there will be a critical need for aging and other services in the <br />future. <br />3. SIZE <br />The subject parcel is 1.545 acres, 67,300 square feet. <br />4. PROPOSED UNIT <br />The building will be 13,520 sf. There will be seven offices, 1820 sf each, with rotating <br />specialist sharing space with Physical Therapy. The X- Ray office will have a waiting <br />room, patient check -in area, a doctor's office, dressing rooms, two exam rooms, the <br />X -ray room and a unisex restroom. The other six offices will each have a waiting <br />room, patient check -in area, a doctor's office, four exam rooms, a break room, <br />unisex restroom and a storage room. <br />5. EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTELE <br />The geriatric clinic will see 16 patients per day with one physician, attending nurse, <br />a licensed practical nurse and a receptionist. The hours of operation would be <br />from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. On <br />Wednesday, the office will open at 12:00 noon and remain open until 5:00 p.m. <br />for client convenience. <br />The X -ray laboratory will see 12 patients per day with one doctor, one technician, <br />and one nurse. The hours of operation would be from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday <br />through Friday. <br />The pediatrician office will see 16 patients per day with one doctor, one nurse and <br />one receptionist. The hours of operation would be 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday <br />
