Hawai‘i County Fire Commission <br />Minutes of January 8, 2014 <br />Page 2 <br />FIRE CHIEF’S REPORT <br />Chief Rosario highlighted items on his written report. <br />BUDGET STATUS <br /> FY 2013/2014: The budget is at 50.5% after 6 months. Chief commended the <br />staff for managing the funds. <br />ALTERNATIVE FUNDING AND GRANTS <br /> FY 2012 CDBG Grant for Pahoa Tanker: The grant was concluded. <br /> FY 2012 Assistance to Fire Fighters Grant Application: Payment is being made, <br />and classes scheduled. <br /> FY 2012 Assistance to Fire Fighters Prevention Grant Application: The process <br />continues. <br /> Y 2013 CDBG Grant for Waiakea Quint: The process continues <br /> Capital Improvement Projects. The Kawailani Fire Station replacement is moving <br />forward with Public Works and DLNR. <br />GOALS AND OBJECTIVES UPDATE: <br /> Meetings are scheduled with Ocean Safety <br />on January 28 in Kona at the West Hawai‘i Civic Center and on January 29 in the <br />Aupuni Center. <br />HUMAN RESOURCES DIVISION <br /> Recruitments <br /> Internal recruitments within the Department: The new Assistant Chief (AC1) <br />was selected. Announcement to be made shortly. <br /> Internal recruitments within the County: A new account clerk was hired. They <br />are waiting for the eligibility list for an HR assistant. <br /> Open-competitive recruitments: Recruitment for WSOs continues. Interviews <br />scheduled for a mechanic position. Fire Fighter Recruits are being screened; <br />agility test will be scheduled. <br /> Labor Relations: Arbitration for a WSO’s two suspensions continues. <br />EMERGENCY OPERATIONS DIVISION <br /> Operations: Implementation of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement is set for <br />January 15. <br /> <br />
