Hawaii State Commission on the Status of Women <br />th <br />Elena reported that she and Margaret attended the 50 anniversary at the State Capitol. <br /> <br />HSCSW is supporting public service announcements that the Hilo High performing arts <br />students and Keaau Youth Business Center are putting together. HSCSW will provide <br />$10,000 to have PSAs broadcasted statewide via radio and television. Department of <br />Health is also supporting the project. Cyd and Roxanne are also involved. The PSAs will <br />focus on how to express love and affection without doing it and how to end a romantic <br />relationship. It is hoped that the project is will done in late April or early May. <br /> <br /> HSCSW submitted a bid for the 2015 National Conference. <br /> <br /> 2. Legislative Update <br /> Family Leave bill died. Minimum wage increase is still alive. <br /> <br />The new Department of Health Director Dr. Rosen is making sure that hospitals are <br />compliant with emergency contraceptives. <br /> <br />B. Health <br /> 1. Women’s Health Month <br />Ladies Night Out was held on September 27, 2013. Report given in October 2013. <br /> <br />C. Education <br /> 1. Equal Pay <br />PayDay candy bars are not readily available in the local stores. Members will continue <br />to search. <br /> <br />Hazel will arrange to have the Governor issue a proclamation. A letter writing campaign <br />to the local newspapers, including Star-Advertiser was suggested. There is lots of <br />information at AAUW.com website. <br /> <br /> Quotes for the labels are done. Farrah-Marie will donate and print labels. <br /> <br />Cyd and Mele will handout candy bars on April 9 at UHH’s Take Back The Night event. <br />Kim and Hazel will hand out candy bars on April 11-Pink Mocha Cafe (prior to meeting) <br />and in Waimea (post meeting). <br /> <br /> $500 was budgeted for Equal Pay; $250 will be used to buy PayDay candy bars. <br />2 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
