<br /> <br />1 SOUTH KOHALA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PLAN ACTION COMMITTEE <br />2 aka HUI KULEANA O KOHALA HEMA <br />3 southkohalaactioncommittee@gmail.com <br />4 County of Hawai’i <br />5 MINUTES <br />6 Meeting Date: May 18, 2015 <br />th <br />7 Call to order: 5:00 pm <br />8 Place: Waikoloa Village Association Community Room <br />9 68 Melia Street, Waikoloa Village, HI 96738 <br />10 Roll Call: <br />11 1Members present: Josephine (Jojo) Tanimoto, Diane Kaneali’i, Joel <br /> <br />12 Cohen, John Mueller, George (Robbie) Robertson, and Roger Harris. <br />13 2Planning Department: Deanne Bugado, Ali Catalano <br /> <br />14 3Public in attendance: Roland and Nani Sandstrom, Nina Kalckar, Mark <br /> <br />15 Gordon, Stephanie Stearns, Dave Hirt, Sheldon Meier, Mary Wills, <br />16 Cindy Kester, Warren Lee, and Ruth Smith. <br />17 STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC REGARDING ITEMS ON AGENDA <br /> <br />18 Roland Sandstrom spoke in regard to the update to the General Plan Item <br /> <br />19 and guidelines for cul de sacs in the county statutes. Regarding the Waikoloa <br />20 subdivision he explained that he would like to see the west exit road go <br />21 straight through, and that eventually he would like to see the community <br />22 recreation center have an access road to Queen Kaahumanu Highway. He also <br />23 expressed his concern that all future developments should have their own <br />24 access roads to Waikoloa Road and should not rely on Paniolo Avenue. He <br />25 also brought up the concern of the test lamps around the villages and that <br />26 he’d like to see new lamps put in or have skirts put on those lights so they are <br />27 lighting the street and not the homes. <br /> <br />28 Nina Kalckar, a new resident to the area, spoke in regard to the update to the <br /> <br />29 General Plan Item and brought up some ideas in regards to economic growth. <br />30 She had some ideas on developing businesses in the area and being able to <br />31 take advantage of the World Wide Web. She also brought up the possibility of <br />32 facilitating a relationship with University of Hawaii. <br /> <br />33 Mike Gordon spoke in regard to the update to the General Plan Item and <br /> <br />34 brought up the topic of the community emergency response team and <br />35 suggested that paved roads be a priority because this area is so prone to <br />36 wildfires. <br />37 PRESENTATION <br />38 1.Warren Lee, Director of the Department of public works, spoke in regard to <br /> <br />39 projects in South Kohala District. He brought up that the funding for roads <br />40 comes from county funding, fuel tax, and the State Transportation <br />41 Improvement Program (STIP). <br /> <br />42 The first is repairing the Mamalahoa Highway in Waimea <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
