Mayors Committee on People with Disabilities August 19, 2015 <br />Parks & Recreation Report <br />Alisa Mitchener, Recreation Specialist for Program Access <br /> <br />RECREATION <br />Summer Fun Season: 60 Children with disclosed disabilities (twice as many as in past <br />years) were successfully included in our island wide programs. Diverse disabilities <br />included autism, Deafness/ hard of hearing, asthma, migraines, sickle cell anemia, <br />ADHD, behavioral disorders, epilepsy, and hemophilia. Parent contact and planning <br />was essential. <br /> <br />I created new “Allergy Safe Environment” Packets for sites with children with severe <br />allergic reactions requiring epi-pens: included lists of food that may contain hidden <br />peanuts, notice to parents for their Kokua on snacks and food sharing, information on <br />how a child might describe their allergic reaction, and a poster to tell kids how they can <br />help. Packets for severe allergic reactions to bee stings were also provided. <br /> <br />I created Meltdown Prevention Plans and Medical Emergency Plans for children that <br />needed them. Children with blood disorders that required Emergency Plans and <br />different first aid procedures were served. Staff were briefed before the program started. <br /> <br />Coordinated Ability Awareness Day at Papaikou Summer Fun with activity stations: <br />wheelchair obstacle course, dog ball soccer, Ollie the octopus, taste the rainbow, sound <br />bingo, and design an accessible playground park. <br /> <br />COMMUNITY SUPPORT <br />July 8, 2015 Presented “ADA Program Access: Building Connections with Government” <br />at a conference sponsored by County Research and Development Department and the <br />Hawaii Tourism Authority. <br /> <br />Researched modification request in Naalehu for improved access to the HCEOC <br />building. <br /> <br />AQUATICS <br />All 9 pool lifts are operating smoothly. <br /> <br />Assisted ARC of HILO and Pahoa with coordination of Waiver of Fees, pool permits, <br />and release of claims for participants for Pahoa Pool and Kawamoto Pool. <br /> <br />BEACH ACCESS <br />July 17, 2015 Coordinated Mobi chair training with ARC of Hilo. <br />July 21, 2015 Mobi Mat Project volunteer orientation at Hope Services’ Hope Resource <br />Center. Recruited volunteer team for Mobi Mat Days at Richardson’s. <br /> <br />Started Mobi Mat Project every Friday from July 24, 2015 through September 25, 2015. <br /> <br />July 24, 2015 Assisted Deep and Beyond Snorkel Day with Mobi Mats <br /> <br />5 <br /> <br /> <br />
