2009 SENIOR <br />ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING <br /> <br />Both East & West Hawai‘i CSE staff provided <br />Transportation for the RSVP Council Representatives, <br />EAD Senior Club and Nutrition Council <br />Presidents, and staff in attending the “2009 Elderly <br />Activities Division’s Senior Advisory Council Meeting,” <br />which was held on January 23, 2009, at the Naniloa <br />Volcanoes Resort-Kilohana Room in Hilo. <br /> <br />EAD Operations Director, Harold Bugado, and EAD’s <br />Program Directors from the Retired and Senior <br />Volunteer Program (RSVP), Senior Training and <br />Employment Program (STEP), Elderly Recreation Services <br />(ERS), Special Programs (SP. PRGS.), <br />Hawai‘i County Nutrition Program (HCNP), & <br />Coordinated Services for the Elderly (CSE), provided <br />program information and dispersed informational <br />activity & event fliers. Senior representatives also <br />discussed district problems and concerns. <br /> <br />Lunch, refreshments, and lucky number drawings <br />were all part of the program. Prizes were <br />donated by First Hawaiian Bank and various EAD programs. <br /> <br />The next I&A District Team Meetings will be held; July 7-9, <br />2009; Hāmākua at the Pa‘auilo School <br />Library; Kohala at the Kohala Senior Center; Hilo at <br />the Kamana Senior Center; Kona at the Haleki‘i – West <br />Hawai‘i Senior Center; Puna at the Kea‘au Community <br />Center; and in Ka‘ū at the Nā‘ālehu Community Center. <br /> <br />INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE <br /> <br />Once again CSE is assisting AARP by scheduling tax help <br />appointments at the Kamana Senior Center and St. Joseph <br />Church in Hilo. Scheduling started in January and all spots filled <br />quickly. Goodwill is also assisting with filing taxes. Appointments <br />can be made by calling Syrena at 315-0962. Appointment times <br />are 4, 5 & 6:00 p.m. Criteria for tax help includes: annual income <br />of less than $42,000, no SSI, self employment under $400, and <br />only 2008 taxes can be done. AARP Tax Aides are available to <br />assist at the IRS office in Hilo Lagoon Conference Room on <br />Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. In Kailua-Kona, tax help is <br />available at the AARP Information Center located at the Pottery <br />Terrace on Tuesday’s from 12 noon to 6 p.m. by appointment only, <br />and on Thursdays at Hale Halawai from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. In Captain <br />Cook, walk ins are welcome on Wednesdays at the Yano Hall from 9 a.m. <br />to 12 noon.
