TRANSPORTATION SERVICES

CSE is most known for providing essential Transportation
Services for the elderly and individuals with
disabilities who are unable to obtain other means of transportation.

In order to keep up with the increasing demand CSE
received; one 12 passenger raised-roof van from a
2004 DOT Grant Proposal for the Hāmākua District;
received approval in the 2008-9 budget from the county
to purchase a 12 passenger raised-roof van for the Puna
District; & received good news from the State Department
of Transportation (DOT) that both 2005 & 2006 Grant Proposals
were approved awarding CSE a total of three 14 passenger
vans for the districts of Kona, Hilo, & N. Kohala. CSE has also
submitted a 2007 FTA /Section 5310 application to
acquire another 2 vehicles for other districts to
replace their aging fleet.

Transportation is provided for medical appointments, essential
shopping, resource agencies, and other needed errands. CSE
allows seniors and those with disabilities to remain in the home
independently with our assistance.

Suggested contribution amount for all services is $2.00 per trip,
however any amount contributed is greatly appreciated especially
with the cost of gas and repairs. “Mahalo for all your help!!!”

ASSISTING SENIORS IN OBTAINING BENEFITS
Through the years, CSE has enhanced the lives of the
seniors of the Big Island, and their families, by finding
the help they need to live independently with dignity.
Many of our seniors are unaware of benefits that may be
available, or what they may be entitled to receive. Through
CSE’s intake and assessment process, CSE staff identifies
client needs, completes appropriate forms and applications,
and/or makes appropriate referrals to meet the needs identified.

Often seniors are reluctant to ask for help, although they have
contributed to their communities all throughout their lifetime.
CSE works together with the other outstanding service agencies
of the Aging Network on the Big Island to ensure that the seniors of
Hawai‘i County needs are met.

SENIOR COMPANION PROGRAM (SCP)
The need is increasing for Senior Companion volunteers
across our community.
